Antoine Le Duigou obtained his PhD in Materials Science from the University of South Brittany and Ifremer in 2010, under the supervision of Prof. C Baley P Davies, where he developed natural fiber biocomposites for marine applications.
In 2014, he introduced the new concept of hygromorphic biocomposites. The main disadvantage of natural fibers, namely their sensitivity to moisture, became an advantage for the first time thanks to the paradigm of biomimicry. A new functionality for natural fibers was proposed.
He won the Young Researcher Award from the French Composites Association (AMAC) in 2017 and from the European Society for Composite Materials (ESCM) in 2018. He defended his Habilitation thesis in 2017 on Composite Materials and Natural Fibers: From Reinforcement to Hygromorphic Actuators. He was appointed Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) in 2024 under the Innovation Chair.
