Etienne Berthier is a glaciologist at CNRS and has been conducting research at Laboratoire d'Études en Géophysique et Océanographie Spatiales (Midi-Pyrénées Observatory) since 2007. Using images from Earth observation satellites, he studies the evolution of mountain glaciers and ice caps in order to better understand their response to climate change and quantify their contribution to rising sea levels. He currently runs the Pléiades Glacier Observatory (https://www.legos.omp.eu/pgo/). He has published over 140 articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several popular works. He is a scientific editor for the journals The Cryosphere and La Météorologie. He has received the Cartography Prize from the Académie des Sciences and the Weertman Medal from the European Geophysical Union.
