Marie Claire Villeval

Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS and Director of the GATE-Lab at the University of Lyon

Marie Claire Villeval is Director of Research Emeritus at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Director of the GATE-Lab at the University of Lyon. Her work focuses on behavioral and experimental economics, with a particular interest in the dynamics of social norms, ethics, motivated beliefs, and selective information transmission, as well as incentive design.

She has published more than 135 articles covering a wide range of topics in leading journals, including the American Economic Review, The Economic Journal, Journal of Labor Economics, Management Science, Journal of Public Economics, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). She is a recipient of the CNRS Silver Medal and the Allais Prize in Behavioral Sciences.

She has served as President of the Economic Science Association (ESA), the French Economic Science Association (AFSE), and Founding President of the French Association for Experimental Economics (ASFEE). She is Department Editor at Management Science, Fellow of the Economic Science Association and the European Association of Labor Economists, and a member of the Academia Europaea, IZA, and GLO.
