Matthieu Vandamme

Professor at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC), researcher at the Laboratoire Navier, and specialist in construction materials

Matthieu Vandamme is a professor at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC) and works as a researcher at the Laboratoire Navier (ENPC, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Université Gustave Eiffel, CNRS). He studies construction materials (i.e., cementitious materials, earth, etc.) and those relevant to underground energy applications (i.e., soils, rocks, etc.). He is particularly interested in how the properties of these materials change when they are stressed, for example when they dry, freeze, or interact with CO2. He is also interested in how the properties of these materials change over time.

An engineer who graduated from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and the École Polytechnique, Matthieu Vandamme obtained a PhD in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA) in 2008. His thesis focused on the mechanical characterization of cementitious materials at the very small scale using the nanoindentation technique.

Since 2022, he has been Deputy Chair of the Civil Engineering and Construction Department at ENPC.
