Alexis Gautreau set up his research team in the Laboratory of structural cell biology (*BIOC: a joint research unit of CNRS, École Polytechnique - Institut Polytechnique de Paris) on the campus of the École polytechnique in 2015. Together with students, he developed a research field on the "personalised reconstruction of tumour production" funded by a sponsorship from Servier. He is a research director at the CNRS (DR1) and professor at École polytechnique. He has been Chairman of the School's Biology Department since 2023.
