After studying at AgroParisTech he began his professional career at ARVALIS-Institut du végétal before joining INRAE. His research in vine genetics has revealed a mutation in the genome necessary to obtain the powerful aromatic profile of varieties in the Muscats family. He was one of the first researchers in the world to highlight the effects of climate change on the vine. Holder of a habilitation to direct research, he is researching the genetic determinants that characterise vine varieties that ripen late or are capable of maintaining high levels of acidity even at high temperatures during grape ripening.
