Laurence Devillers

Laurence Devillers is a professor of artificial intelligence at Sorbonne University and a researcher at the CNRS, within the LISN (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Digital Sciences), where she heads the HUMA-AI-NE chair, which focuses on affective interactions between humans and machines as well as ethics. Her work focuses in particular on human-machine interaction, emotion recognition, spoken dialogue, affective robotics, and ethical issues related to AI. She also chairs the Blaise Pascal Foundation, dedicated to science outreach in mathematics and computer science, and has served on several national and international committees on digital ethics. Her academic record includes more than 200 publications (Google Scholar h-index of 48), and she is the author of four books aimed at the general public: *Des robots et des hommes* (Plon, 2017), *Les robots émotionnels* (L’Observatoire, 2020), *IA, Ange ou Démon? ” (Cerf, 2025), and “Living with AI” (Denoël, 2026). She also co-wrote, with Serge Abiteboul and Gilles Dowek, the play “Who Hacked Garoutzia?” which premiered in Avignon in 2023 and was revived in Paris in 2023–2024. She was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 2019, then an Officer of the Order of Merit in 2026.
