Michael Mourez

Michael Mourez trained in the fields of envelope physiology of Gram-negative bacteria and bacterial pathogenesis. After receiving his engineering degree from the École Polytechnique, he obtained a PhD in fundamental bacteriology at the Institut Pasteur in Paris working on ATP-binding cassette transporters, and completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School in Boston working on anthrax toxins.

Michael Mourez previously worked at Sanofi as head of their antibacterial discovery portfolio in the therapeutic area of infectious diseases, and then at Evotec where he oversaw technology platforms dealing with severe bacterial infections, in particular drug resistance.

Before working in industry, he held assistant and then full professor positions at the University of Montreal in Canada. There he developed a research programme on virulence factors in pathogenic Escherichia coli at the School of Veterinary Medicine and held a Canada Research Chair in Bacterial Animal Diseases. He has also obtained numerous grants and fellowships and is author of more than 50 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and inventor on several patents.
