Armand Hatchuel

Armand Hatchuel is Professor Emeritus of Management Sciences and Design Theory at Mines Paris, PSL University. His work with Benoit Weil and Pascal Le Masson has focused on the formalization of creative rationality in the face of the unknown (C-K Theory). In addition to receiving international academic recognition, this work is applied in businesses and research centers to guide innovative teams. It has also influenced the psychology and pedagogy of creativity and shed light on the unique productivity of certain scientific institutions. Together with Blanche Segrestin, they developed a theory of the company as a collective creation and a responsible force, which inspired the reform of corporate law in France (the 2019 Pacte Law) and the establishment of “mission-driven companies.” Their latest work focuses on building climate justice.

Armand Hatchuel is a fellow of the Design Society and the European Academy of Management. He has published numerous articles and books, including, notably, “Collective Action in the Unknown” (Hermann, 2023), and, with Chipten Valibhay, “Science Differently: The Creative Sociabilities of the École de Physique des Houches” (MSH, 2025). Armand Hatchuel was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 2017.
