Joseph Vernier is a doctoral student researching microclimate as it applies to agrivoltaics. His work lies at the intersection of microclimate physics with CEREA at ENPC, plant physiology with INRAE, and energy systems with EDF. More specifically, he models the exchange of energy, water, and gases between the atmosphere, plants, the soil, and obstacles (such as photovoltaic panels, other plants, or buildings). His goal is to identify which combinations of crops and photovoltaic panels can improve crop resilience to climate hazards, particularly drought, heat waves, frost, and high winds.
