Pierre Sel

Associate Expert with the Asia Program at Institut Montaigne, PhD candidate at the University of Vienna, and Political Science Researcher

Pierre Sel is a research fellow at the Institut Montaigne and a doctoral candidate in political science at the University of Vienna in Austria. His academic work focuses on the intellectual and institutional history of the Social Credit System, with a broader interest in public policy-making and the evolution of economic and political reforms in the post-Maoist era. In particular, he demonstrates that the trajectory of social credit mirrors that of reflections on modern methods of economic regulation and the arrival of information technologies in the realm of governance.

In parallel with this research, Pierre works as an analyst in the semiconductor sector. Drawing on several years of field experience in Beijing, he now continues this work at the Institut Montaigne as part of the European ChipDiplo project, where he contributes to the development of a risk analysis tool for the European semiconductor ecosystem. He previously worked for CEA LETI at the French Embassy in Beijing and served as an independent researcher at EastIsRed, which he co-founded.
