Sophie Lavaux has been Executive Director of safe.brussels since July 15, 2021, and in that capacity has served as Crisis Management Governor for Brussels since July 26, 2021. In this role, she is responsible for crisis management and emergency planning.
She holds a master’s degree in criminology from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, a master’s degree in public administration management from the Solvay Business School, a master’s degree in European politics from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, a certificate in radicalism and terrorism from the University of Liège, and a postgraduate degree in crisis management from the University of Antwerp. she began her professional career as a political analyst in the Belgian intelligence services before spending most of her career at the Belgian National Crisis Center (NCCN).
Sophie Lavaux has also contributed to the specialized literature on public security and crisis management through numerous publications and actively continues to explore the ethical and strategic issues related to the use of AI in public security governance.
